The oxybutynin formulation is a cosmetic quality, clear and odorless gel designed to be rapidly absorbed through the skin following once-a-day application on the abdomen, shoulders or thighs. Anturol is a gel formulation of oxybutynin designed for optimized absorption through the skin following once-a-day application on the abdomen, shoulders, or thighs. Oxybutynin is considered the gold standard for OAB treatment, and is currently available only in oral dose and adhesive patch formulations. Oxybutynin exerts a direct antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle and inhibits the muscarinic action of acetylcholine on smooth muscle. No blocking effects occur at skeletal neuromuscular junctions or autonomic ganglia (antinicotinic effects).
